The objective of the City of Hamilton's Brownfields Redevelopment
Program is to develop tools and methods to promote the reuse of
Brownfield sites within our community. This initiative represents our
efforts to remove barriers to redevelopment and foster additional
incentives to establish creative pathways for the reuse of Brownfields.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency defines a Brownfield
as, "Real property, where the expansion, redevelopment or reuse of which
may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous
substance, pollutant, or contaminant."
The City of Hamilton's Brownfields program is overseen by a Brownfields
Redevelopment Advisory Council. The Advisory Council is comprised of
economic development experts, community/neighborhood representatives,
members of the business community, and relevant city and county
officials. The Advisory Council was established to oversee, advise and
coordinate the Brownfields initiative, solicit community input so as to
determine the need, priority and redevelopment strategies for these
sites within our community.
Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund
The Brownfield Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) capitalized by a grant from
the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) offers
below-market rate loans to assist with the remediation of a brownfield
property to return it to a productive economic use in the community.
