Construction Services |
The Construction Services Division of the Planning Department, helps to make sure homes,
businesses, schools and other structures in Hamilton are safe places to
live, work and play. Building codes and ordinances set minimum safety
standards for all aspects of building construction: structural, fire,
plumbing, electrical and heating and air systems.
Permits are required for all new construction, additions, alterations and remodeling, including fences, swimming pools and decks. Permits and inspections are necessary to verify code standards are met. These standards apply whether a professional contractor or a “do-it-yourself” homeowner does the work. When the project is complete, an inspector approves the final project and issues a certificate of occupancy marking the site ready for human habitation. Projects located within one of the City’s
historic districts which involve exterior work may require a
Certificate of Appropriateness from the Hamilton Historic Design
Review Board. If a construction project is located within the FEMA flood
zone, plans are required to show compliance with FEMA regulations.
Applications and permits for these are submitted through the Construction
Services Division for approval by the Planning Division. |
