Craft License Board

The Hamilton Building Code requires city licensing of all contractors and their staff who install or repair electrical, heating and air conditioning, plumbing systems, sewer taps and those who erect or replace signs. Licensing gives citizens and businesses some assurance that a person or firm has the basic skills and knowledge to do the work. A list of all licensed contractors is available from the Construction Services Division.

The Crafts Licensing Board reviews qualifications and grades examinations of contractors applying for license. The Board is composed of seven members appointed by the City Manager and who volunteer their time. The Board is made up of multi-jurisdictional members rather than a separate board for each craft and is comprised of labor, general contractors and engineers, architects and citizen representatives. The Building Administrator is also a member and serves as secretary.

Requirements and fees for obtaining a license and applications are available through the Construction Services Division. The Craft Licensing Board meets the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Construction Services Office and is open to the public. License Examinations for approved applicants are given the last Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the Construction Services Office.
