Demolition Permit Requirements

Evidence of Insurance – Before a demolition permit is issued, a bond or certificate of insurance, approved by the Director of Law as to form, and as to amount by the Building Commissioner, must be filed with the Director of Finance. No bond or insurance need be filed on one (1) story accessory buildings not exceeding four hundred eighty (480) square feet in area.

Verification of Utility Disconnects – All service utility connections must be discontinued and capped in accordance with the approved rules of the City of Hamilton Departments of Utilities and Engineering.

When a building has been demolished and no new building has been projected or approved, the vacant area must be filled, graded and maintained in conformity to the established street grades at curb level, or natural grade. The area must be maintained free from the accumulation of rubbish and all other unsafe or hazardous conditions which endanger the life or health of the public; and provision must be made to prevent the accumulation of water or damage to any foundations on the premises or the adjoining property.

A separate demolition permit application shall be required for each building or structure.
