HPD Accreditation

In 1990, the Hamilton Police Department entered a new era in professional law enforcement when it became the 139th Internationally Accredited Law Enforcement Agency.  This prestigious honor was awarded to the department after an intensive review of departmental policies and practices which ensured that the agency was in compliance with almost 900 standards promulgated by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.  The Hamilton Police Department is prepared to meet the challenges of the next century.  Technology is utilized to enhance our enforcement efforts.  Educational programs have been developed to allow uniformed officers to reach our school children, shaping young minds before the criminal element can corrupt them.  Together, as partners with our community, we see a better future ahead as the Hamilton Police Department enters its second century of service.

The Hamilton Police Department is one of less than seven hundred internationally accredited law enforcement agencies in the United States.  To achieve accreditation, a police department must demonstrate compliance with rigorous standards designed to increase agency effectiveness and efficiency,  promote excellence, and increase citizen and employee confidence in the goals, objectives, policies, and practices of the agency.  The Department is one of only a few dozen accredited agencies in the State of Ohio and the fourth-largest accredited municipal police agency in the state.
