Numerous grants have allowed the Hamilton Police Department the ability to maintain a successful K-9 program. There are currently three German Shepherds and accompanying K-9 officers assigned to each patrol shift. They serve as invaluable tools for tracking criminal suspects and in locating missing persons. The units use specially equipped cruisers with darkened rear windows, special equipped flatten rear non-skid seats for the canines, additional metal screening over the rear windows, and electronic doors.

There is also a black Labrador Retriever named Regret who serves as a narcotics canine, and has proven himself invaluable in detecting illicit substances in a variety of situations.

The officers and canines undergo continuous training every month.
