The Hamilton Police Department's Explorers Program is focused on kids
who would like to be involved in police work. This program is targeted
towards children ages fourteen through twenty years of age. This is a
critical time in a child's life where peer pressure and boredom causes
them to make wrong or improper decisions. This program encourages the
Explorers to become involved in community functions/events,
volunteerism, self-respect, discipline, respect for others and correct
problem-solving methods. The Explorers do not have any powers of
arrest. The Explorers
are solely to assist Hamilton Police officers in minor routine duties.
The Hamilton Police Department's Public Affairs Section in conjunction
with the Kiwanis Club of Lindenwald/Hamilton has joined together in
making this program a huge success. The Kiwanis Club has assisted in
funding the Explorers with uniforms and supplies needed enabling them to
assist Hamilton Police officers with a variety of special functions.
Some of these functions are to assist with motorist questions during
parade details, community functions and other events.
The officers directly involved in conducting this program volunteer
their own time to make this experience as enjoyable and rewarding as
possible. At this time, the Explorers Program is limited to twenty
children who actively participate. It is the goal of the Hamilton Police
Department to maintain a program geared towards our youth to help
prevent violence and drug/alcohol abuse. The sole purpose of our program
is to educate the Explorers of the pitfalls of being involved in illegal
activity and to point them towards safety and good health that will be a
part of their everyday life. The Explorers Program is an invaluable tool
for the children and young adults involved in this program who are
looking for a career in law enforcement.
