We are very selective in hiring future members of the Hamilton Police Department. If you have integrity and a desire to be the best, you may well be just what we are looking for. If you are looking for a professional, exciting workforce, you have found us.

The City of Hamilton is a multi-ethnic, predominantly blue-collar community comprised of over 60,000 residents. Like most other blue-collar communities, residential neighborhoods range from low-income housing to subdivisions, with homes ranging in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. The size of Hamilton makes it an ideal community in which to pursue a career in policing.

The personnel of the Hamilton Police Department provide around-the-clock police protection and response for its citizens by utilizing three rotating patrol shifts. The department maintains a Detective Division, comprised of an Investigations Section and a Vice Section, a Traffic Division, Services Division, and Training Section. Additionally, there is Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Program, Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT) Program, and Tactical Response Team (TRT). Of course, the backbone of the department is the seventy-plus officers assigned to the Patrol Division.

Hamilton also has one of the finest Police/Fire Communications Centers in the state, staffed by civilian dispatchers utilizing 911 capabilities and computer-aided dispatch.

The work of Police Officer involves general duty-sworn police work protecting life and property and enforcement of laws and ordinances. Assignments may involve routine patrol, investigation, traffic enforcement or specialized assignment. The work involves an element of personal danger and requires independent discretion in meeting emergencies as well as high personal standards of integrity and fitness.

In addition to standard personal equipment issued to each officer, members of the Hamilton Police Department carry out their daily responsibilities in cruisers equipped with advanced mobile computers. Mobile and portable radio equipment provides access to the Communications Center, staffed by at least three dispatchers 24-hours a day.
