Engineering DivisionThis division is responsible for the overall planning, design and construction of public improvements such as streets, sidewalks, bridges and sewers. The division also reviews and approves plats and improvement plans for new subdivisions and private developments and controls the use of the public right-of-way throughout the City. Among its many activities, this division issues road closures, assigns house numbers, maintains the City map, reviews complaints about the right-of-way regarding defective sidewalks and encroachments and provides information about the storm and sanitary sewers. Transportation and Traffic Engineering Division The Transportation & Traffic Division is responsible for the installation and maintenance of all traffic control devices throughout the City. These devices include various traffic control signs, traffic signals, pavement marking and channelization. This division also operates the City's parking facilities, which includes parking meter enforcement, on and off street parking meters, and the Municipal Parking Garage. The Transportation & Traffic Division and Engineering Division work closely together to plan future transportation improvement projects. The Streets & Sewers Division's primary responsibility is the maintenance of the City's infrastructure, which includes the street system, the storm drainage system, the sanitary sewer collection system and various bridges. There are approximately 197 miles of streets and approximately 43 bridges throughout the City. This division is responsible for snow and ice control operations for all municipal streets. Many street maintenance and repair activities are accomplished in cooperation with other jurisdictions such as the Butler County Engineer's office and the Ohio Department of Transportation. Office hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Water Reclamation Division provides primary and secondary
treatment to wastewater from the City’s sanitary sewer collection system.
The treatment plant, located at 2451 River Road, has a capacity of 32
million gallons per day, of which 18 million gallons are reserved for the
City. The Water Reclamation Division removes more than 97% of the solids from the
wastewater flow and treats approximately 80 tons of solids daily. The
Compost Facility converts 60% to soil amendment. Then puts other 40% into
soils, excess solids are stabilized with lime and applied to agricultural
