Senator Michael DeWine, Senator George Voinovich U. S. Senate 361-A- Russell Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510-0001 Capital Fax: (202)-224-2499 District Fax: (502)-582-5326 And/Or Representative John Boehner RE: Natural Gas Customer for LIHEAP Dear Senator: I am writing, both as a natural gas utility customer and constituent, to urge you to support increasing funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Even before the hurricanes, this program was seriously under funded and unable to aid hundreds of thousands of households that needed help to keep their homes heated and cooled. Now, because of the hurricanes, prices have jumped even higher. Every day I read about rising energy costs and even the U.S. government is predicting that average natural gas costs will rise 48 percent this winter. I know this increase in costs will hurt my family’s finances and I hesitate to think about what this will do to those less fortunate than myself. While we can conserve, increase production, import more and build a pipeline from Alaska, these are all long-term solutions that will not help us for years. LIHEAP represents one for the precious few legitimate short-term solutions to rising energy prices. I urge you to support increasing funding to LIHEAP so that this vital program is finally properly funded. Your leadership on this matter will go a long way to help relieve the burden of high energy costs for millions of low and fixed income households. Sincerely, |
