The Electric Department is responsible for the generation and distribution
of electric power for customers in and around the city of Hamilton.
The Electric Department maintains a variety of services and systems.
- System Engineering— Engineering for new electric lines, both
overhead and underground, for replacing obsolete or deteriorated
electric lines, for adopting the electric system to urban redevelopment
projects, and for street lighting are typical projects. Activity related
to the Fiber Optics Communications Network which include tasks such as
planning, estimating, field layout, drawing and specification
preparation, materials purchasing, and coordination with affected
customers are also included as part of their responsibility.
- Electric Metering— All residential, commercial and industrial
customer metering activities are performed by this group. This includes
design, materials purchase, installation, maintenance, and testing of
meters and meter related equipment. Planning, materials purchase,
installation, splicing, and testing.
- Customer Service—This activity deals with managing the
interface between the Electric Department and its customers. Activities
include both new and existing customers service requirements. Activities
include planning, installation coordination, facility inspection, energy
management assistance, power quality assistance, billing problem
resolution, and locating underground facilities for the “Call Before You
Dig" program.
